Virginia (Jean) T. Collins (nee Dougherty), age 97, of Fort Washington Estates, Fort Washington, PA, formerly of Oreland, passed away on January 4, 2018. Jean was the beloved wife of the late William J. Collins for 58 years. Jean is survived by her children Joan Campbell, Mary Kay Macri, Nancy Maguire (Mike), and Bill Collins (Jill), and grandchildren Jane Panneton, Sandy Campbell, Regina Campbell-Orehoff, Louis Macri, Theresa Macri, Maria Macri, Megan Maguire, Kate Webster, Kelly Maguire, Erin Collins, Bridget Collins and Nora Collins. She is also survived by seven great grandchildren. She was the last surviving member of her family, preceded in death by her parents Charles Howard and Mary Bridget (nee Hogan) Dougherty, three sisters and three brothers including her twin brother Charles. Born on July 28, 1920 in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, Jean attended John W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School graduating in 1938. After graduation she worked briefly at Gimbels and then as a bookkeeper for Publicker Industries until her marriage in 1945. She re-entered the workforce in 1979 working at McNeil Pharmaceuticals in Spring House, PA until her retirement in 1995 at the age of 75. In 1950 she and Bill moved to Oreland and became members of Holy Martyrs Parish. She was a very active member of the church serving on many committees including the Legion of Mary, St. Vincent DePaul Society, Carnival volunteer and “Holy Duster.” She enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing bridge and pinochle, following golf tournaments and Big 5 basketball, traveling, vacationing at the Jersey shore, dancing and listening to Big Band music. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family. Jean’s Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 10:30 AM at Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Rd., Oreland, PA. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church from 9:30-10:30 AM. Interment Holy Sepulchre Cemetery 3301 W. Cheltenham Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19150.
