Sandra (Sandy) Showalter Khuen-Kryk, 87, of Ann's Choice, Warminster, died of kidney disease on October 16.
She was born in Abington on June 30, 1936, daughter to Robert A. Gilfillan and Helen Meissner Gilfillan O'Malley. She is survived by her three children, James G. Showalter Jr., Mark R. Showalter (Frank Yellin), and Amy D. Mazza, grandchildren Jane Ritt (Evan), Anna Showalter, Helen Showalter, Matthew Mazza, and Sarah Mazza, and sister Bonnie Eyre.
She and Bonnie grew up at Sunset Memorial Park, where their father was the Manager and Executive VP. She graduated from Abington High School in 1953. The sisters remained close for their entire lives; in recent years, they still spoke on the phone nearly every night.
She attended Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, where she met her husband, James. G. ("Big Jim") Showalter, two weeks into her first semester. They married on August 27, 1955 and spent 25 years together until Jim's death on September 27, 1980. She and Jim had purchased Guest and Williams Memorial Company, Inc., where they worked together designing and selling memorials.
She met her second husband, J. Arthur Khuen-Kryk, when he came into her office to purchase a monument for his mother. They married on May 1, 1988 and had 16 years together before his death on March 6, 2004. They traveled together throughout North America and Europe and loved spending time with their young grandchildren.
She moved to Ann’s Choice in 2005, where she developed many close friendships. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and the Protestant Fellowship at Ann's Choice. She was a friend of Bill Wilson for 42 years.
Sandy’s favorite place on Earth was the beach in Avalon, New Jersey. The sound of the ocean and the gentle breeze on her skin always soothed her soul.
"I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." 2 Timothy 4:7
