Rev. George W. Crowe

January 9, 1938 — April 30, 2024

Reverend George W. Crowe, Retired, Resident, Saint Joseph Villa, Flourtown, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2024.

Father Crowe was born on January 9, 1938, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late George F. Crowe and the late Margaret Gradel. Father Crowe attended Saint Ambrose Parochial School, Philadelphia, and La Salle College High School, Philadelphia, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Crowe was ordained on May 22, 1965, at The Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father Crowe served as Parochial Vicar, Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Strafford; Holy Saviour Parish, Linwood; Holy Martyrs Parish, Oreland; Saint Martin of Tours Parish, Philadelphia; Queen of the Universe Parish, Levittown; Saint Pius X Parish, Broomall; Saint Ann Parish, Phoenixville; Saint Clement Parish, Philadelphia; Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, Philadelphia; and Stella Maris Parish, Philadelphia. He retired from active ministry in 2005.

As a priest for nearly 60 years he was a friend to many, but to family he was Uncle George, the fun uncle with the best presents and the corniest jokes. He enjoyed tennis in his teens and in later years took to rafting on lakes while vacationing in the Poconos. He liked birds and had a few as pets but his all-time favorite birds were the Philadelphia Eagles.

Fr. George spent his final two years at St. Joseph Villa where he was happy and at peace surrounded by his favorite Sisters of St. Joseph and their caring staff, including one who always called him “Bishop.” He especially liked the promotion.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Joseph Villa, Flourtown, on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 9:30 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez will celebrate the Funeral Mass for Father Crowe at Saint Joseph Villa Flourtown, on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:30 AM. Reverend Monsignor Paul Kennedy will be the homilist. Burial will be private.

Father Crowe is survived by his sister, Margaret Crowe Smith; niece, Margaret Holt (Stephen); nephew, George Smith (Danielle); and two great-nieces. Interment will be at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Springfield, Pennsylvania.

The family asks that any charitable donations in remembrance of Fr. Crowe be made to St. Joseph Villa, Flourtown, PA.
