Natalie Marie Manson Susanin, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died peacefully at her home in Blue Bell, 28 January 2023, at the age of 88. Natalie was born 14 May 1934 and grew up in Mt. Airy, Philadelphia. She was a very proud ‘lifer’ at The Cecilian Academy and remained loyal for the rest of her life to both her fellow Class of 1952 classmates and their educators, The Sisters of St. Joseph. Natalie attended Barry College in Miami, FL and Webster College in St. Louis, MO. Following her college years, Natalie was Secretary to the Dean of Temple University School of Pharmacy where she was introduced to her future husband and dental student, John Susanin. The couple was married in 1959 and raised their family of four sons in Wyndmoor and Lafayette Hill. Natalie’s life was defined by her career as a full-time mother to her boys and their five dachshunds, by her devotion to her extended family & network of close friends and to her faith; in her leisure time Natalie was happiest either on a beach or traveling the world. In addition to her long-standing role as official score keeper for the Country Club Swimming Association of Philadelphia, Natalie was an active member of the PTA at Norwood Academy and of The La Salle Mothers’ Club where she was happy to serve as both Treasurer and President. In support of her husband’s practice, Chesheim Dental Associates, she enjoyed the travel and continuing education afforded to her through the Montgomery Bucks Women’s Dental Auxiliary. Natalie was extremely proud of her Scotch-Irish heritage, her Philadelphia roots and being American. Natalie was a founding member of ‘The Grapevine,’ a unique sorority of competitive bridge players and great friends, formulated in 1962 and lasted for over 60 years. In addition, Natalie enjoyed her early years playing the piano, her competitive tennis years, her time as a gifted needle pointer, and the hours spent walking the trails of the Wissahickon, the beaches of Florida & Ocean City, NJ and the many streets of Europe. During her golden years, Natalie ran the business office and was a key contributor to her son Jay’s business PALLADIO – where she will be sorely missed by many.. Natalie was pre-deceased in life by her parents Mary Regina Byrne Manson and William J. Manson, Sr. and her older five siblings, Regina Manson Kemp, Mary Rose Logan, William J. Manson, Jr., Edward B. Manson, and Joseph J. Manson. She is survived by her husband, John A. Susanin, their children and spouses, Peter and Joy Susanin, Timothy and Barbara Susanin, Jay and Silke Susanin and Chris and Carolyn Susanin. In addition, Natalie is survived by her ten grandchildren, John, Scott, Jamie, Annabel, Ryan, Barbara, Quinn, JD, Cornelia, and Cal. A Mass of Christian Burial shall be celebrated for Natalie at St. Genevieve Church in Flourtown at 10:00 on Saturday, 4 February 2023. Relatives and friends are invited to visit with the family from 9-10AM at the church. Interment will be private.
