Linda Susan Frost (nee Tetzlaff)
We are proud to be the daughters of Linda Frost, and we are beyond devastated to announce her passing on November 30, 2023.
Linda was a caregiver and a healer. Throughout her life, she tirelessly supported the people, animals, and causes about which she was passionate. A first-generation American, she was proud to be the daughter of immigrants, and inherited her parents' fierce work ethic on behalf of her own family. Linda loved nature documentaries and her beloved Sir David Attenborough; there will never be another medical professional who can place an IV like she could.
Linda was born in Brooklyn, NY, to Irma and Longin Tetzlaff. Raised in Long Island with her older brother Alfred, she enjoyed the company of her dachshund Gretl and the fruits of her mother's talent for sewing: In every old photo that re-emerges digitally from the past, Linda's clothes are impeccable, the fashion is forward, and the tailoring is fierce. She told us of her childhood fondness for horses, sweets, and the Beatles; she told us how she was visiting close relatives in Germany when Neil Armstrong landed on the moon.
Linda attended SUNY Plattsburgh, where she received a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She then served as a Lieutenant in the Nurses Corps of the United States Navy. She went on to specialize as a neonatal nurse, next devoting over 35 years to the Newborn Intensive Care Unit at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Named "Frosty" by her colleagues and the trainees she mentored, Linda's proclivity with venipuncture was known far and wide throughout CHOP's hallowed halls. Also known was her weakness for chocolate, which remained -- in her opinion -- an acceptable bribe until the moment she passed.
But most importantly, and above all else, she was a mother.
Linda entered motherhood with the birth of her first daughter, Heather Teng (Albert), followed by her second child, Shannon Greenstein (Mark), and her third, Jaime Frost. Over her lifetime, she added the title of "Oma" to her repertoire with the births of Anabelle, Cole, Juliette, Omri, Niko, River, and Ari. Not to be forgotten, she was the beloved cat mother to her rescue cats, Mickey and Mia. Linda was also known -- despite the wishes of her Homeowner's Association -- to regularly feed the birds and squirrels from her wooded balcony in West Chester (regardless of the comments from her downstairs neighbor), because Linda cared about animals; Linda cared about everyone.
Linda also did not like when anyone changed the settings on her thermostat.
But if there was anything Oma's house had in abundance, it was coziness, and warmth, and hospitality. No one was allowed to clean up after themselves in Oma's house; no one. And we all listened, every time, because it was obvious how much she loved us.
Linda cared deeply about her 7 grandchildren and her volunteer position nurturing foals at the New Bolton Center of Penn Veterinary Medicine. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Linda's memory to the
New Bolton Center, or a
Venmo contribution to a dedicated 529 Plan for her grandchildren's education, managed by the Executor of Linda's estate.
Linda's impact was immeasurable. Her daughters, son-in-laws, brother, grandchildren, and friends will miss her more than words can express.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, December 7, 2023 at 11AM at the John F. Murray Funeral Home 1220 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031. Interment will be private.
