Leslie D. Nyiri

August 29, 1942 — February 14, 2023

Leslie (Les) Nyiri passed away peacefully on February 14, 2023 at the age of 80 with his family by his side.  Beloved by so many throughout his life, he is survived by his wife Roseann, daughter Jenn Nyiri (Tom Holsten), granddaughter Brianna Hahn, and many additional loving family and friends.

Born in Boston, Les spent his early years in the priesthood, inspired by missionaries as a young boy to help the poorest and most abandoned people in the world.  This translated to a lifelong career in clinical psychology, providing service to people in need of recovery and rehabilitation with no means to seek the help they deserve.  He helped an insurmountable number of people, including his cherished family and friends.  When he retired, he entered what would be one of the greatest roles in his life, “Papa” to his granddaughter Bri.

He lived a life of meaning and purpose, filled with love.  He believed in the power of cultivating authentic relationships, and did so with both family and friends.  He was a constant source of wisdom and presence as a father to Jenn, supporting her in every stage of life as it came.  He had an incredible depth of love and support for Roseann, who he wanted to be near almost every moment of the day.  In recent reflections of his life that he captured in writing, he repeatedly referenced the amount of love and admiration he had for her, not just as husband and wife, but as friends and partners.

His insatiable curiosity will be deeply missed, bringing so much knowledge and learning to us all.  We are filled with gratitude for what he gave us and the world, and now he can take a rest knowing he has inspired others to serve those in need.  When asked what the real meaning of life is, he said it came down to one thing: Love.  In his case then, it was a meaningful life well lived.
