Joseph J Larkin, age 87, passed away peacefully at home in Flourtown, surrounded by his family on Saturday, October 26th. Joe was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many. Joe was born November 23rd, 1936, in Germantown to the late Joseph Larkin and Mary (nee Henderson). Joe is survived by his wife of 65 years, Jean (nee Maher) which they celebrated on Thursday, October 24th. He is also survived by his children, Cynthia Kennedy (John), Connie Huelster (Rich), Katie Keith (Doug) and Joe (Trish) and 8 grandchildren, Drew Huelster (Maria), Kevin Huelster (Jonelle), Bryan Kennedy (Meg), Meghan Arnold (Shane), Caroline Huelster, Patrick Kennedy (Chelsea), Mackenzie Keith and Aidan Larkin as well as 5 great grandchildren, Brayden & Maddie Huelster, Mariana Huelster and Remington Arnold and he was predeceased by his great granddaughter Taylor Kennedy. Joe is also survived by brother Robert Larkin as well as brother and sister in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Joe attended North Catholic High School, then went on to graduate from La Salle College and later earned his Master’s degree from Temple University and was a Captain in the US Army. Joe enjoyed the travel he and Jean and took including cruises with their friends and family. He and Jean took the entire family to Ireland for a spectacular trip when they retired. He enjoyed many summers in Sea Isle with family and friends and was a longtime member of the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, where he enjoyed meeting up with friends and family and catching the beautiful sunsets. Family was of great importance to Joe; he always stayed up to date on the latest goings on with his children and grandchildren and cherished the many Sunday night dinners with his family, he will be deeply missed!
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 at 10AM at St. Genevieve Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation from 9-10AM at the church. Interment will be private.
