Joseph T. Callahan, age 87, of Wyndmoor, formerly of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on November 5, 2024 at Gwynedd Rehabilitation in Lansdale.
Joe was born in Philadelphia, attended Southeast Catholic High School, and graduated from Drexel University.
He was employed by the Philadelphia Navy Yard for over 30 years, where he began work as a shipwright, while attending evening classes at Drexel. Eventually, he was promoted to Supervisor in the engineering department. He was extremely proud of having served his country in the Naval Reserve at Willow Grove for eight years.
Joe was an avid train collector and he enjoyed playing the piano, dabbling in poetry and traveling.
He is survived by his wife Mary "Bunny" (nee Hoban) Callahan, his children Joseph Jr.(Robin), Lisa Tedesco (Darren), Mary Coronel (Wolfgang), Thomas (Dawn Lahuta), and son-in-law Steven Hartsough. He is also survived by his grandchildren Katie, Sean, Amy, Chelsea, Crystal, Justin, Caitlin Haller, Marisa, Dante, Cassandra, Analise and Olivia and 14 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Eileen (nee Wisniewski), his daugher Kathleen Hartsough, his brother Robert Callahan, and his parents Clarence and Dorothy (nee Moak) Callahan.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at 10:30AM at Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Road Oreland, PA 19075. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing from 9:30-10:30AM at the church. Interment will follow at 1PM at Lakeview Cemetery in Cinnaminson, NJ.
In lieu of flowers, contributions to Tunnel to Towers or Wounded Warrior Project would be appreciated.
