Joseph Michael Cafferky

Joseph Michael Cafferky, born on May 17, 1941, in Philadelphia, PA, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. He dedicated his life to the field of religious education, first in publishing with Brown Publishing Company and later inspiring students during his tenure at Notre Dame High School in Lawrenceville, NJ. Having been a proud graduate of the inaugural class of Cardinal Dougherty High school in Philadelphia, PA, Joe then entered the Vincentian Seminary, gaining many life long friends and leaving with a Master's Degree in Divinity.

Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Catharine (O'Neill) Cafferky, and their children, Joe Cafferky, and Kate Giancatarino (Anthony). He cherished his role as a father and grandfather, leaving behind a legacy in his grandchildren — Anna, Ella, and Maya Giancatarino. He will also be missed by his sister, Mary Dowd (John) and his brother John (Patricia) Cafferky, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins, both in the US and Ireland, who shared cherished memories with him throughout the years. Joe was preceded in death by his brother Jimmy and his parents Patrick and Anne.

In the profound silence that follows his passing, Joseph's spirit will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Joe was a dear friend, mentor, teacher and a beacon of wisdom and compassion. His dedication to faith and family will remain a guiding light, nurturing future generations.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 819 E. Cathedral Road, Philadelphia, PA. Viewing will be from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
