John Francis Devaney, age 63, passed away on March 4, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born in Germantown to Martin and Beatrice Devaney, John was a lifelong resident of the neighborhood he loved and where he grew up. John was proud of his Irish roots – especially his connection to County Mayo where both of his parents were born. Over the years, his friends and neighbors became his extended family. He was known for his love of music, his cats, a great sense of humor, kindness, and genuine concern for others. John is survived by his three sisters, Ann Devaney, Mary Bitterauf, Kathleen Daly and her husband Michael, his nieces Meghan, Amanda, Bridget, Maureen, and nephews Christian and Dennis, great nieces and nephews, Isiah, Remy, Nina, Adrian, Lindsey, Finn, Nora and Maeve. He was preceded in death by his mother Beatrice (Howley), his father Martin Devaney, and niece Nina Bitterauf. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 11 at 10:00 at St. Genevieve’s Catholic Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031. Visitation will be prior to the mass between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in support of the people of Ukraine.
