Henry W. "Chip" Heyser, Jr., 82, of Dresher, PA, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2025, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. Born on February 24, 1943, in Abington, PA, Chip was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who found great joy in his family.
Chip was predeceased by his parents, Dorothy and Henry W. Heyser, Sr. He is survived by his beloved wife, Joan Heyser; his children, Henry Heyser III and his wife, Kristin, and Kristy Ashcraft and her husband, Kenny; and his cherished grandchildren, Alex and Jillian Heyser, and Beah, Henry, Mary, Sarah, and Eva Ashcraft. He is also survived by his siblings, Douglas Heyser (Marnie) and Connie Rule (Dave), as well as his nieces and nephews, Josh, Jocelyn, Tara, and Paul.
Chip earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from Drexel University before embarking on a distinguished career in Federal service that spanned over 41 years. Most of that time was spent at the Philadelphia Naval Shipyard, where he worked from June 1962 until May 2004. He rose to the position of Chief Combat Systems Engineer and received several awards for outstanding performance during his career.
Chip had many passions outside of work. He loved music and was an accomplished trumpet player. He also enjoyed attending performances by the Philadelphia Orchestra. In his younger years, he had a deep love for motorcycles and the thrill of riding. He was also a lifelong Philadelphia sports fan, always cheering on the Phillies and Eagles through every season.
He was a proud and enthusiastic supporter of his children and grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to cheer them on in their various sports. His love for Drexel University Athletics ran deep, as both of his children attended Drexel and competed in sports there, further strengthening his connection and passion for the school’s athletic programs.
Chip also had a passion for building. He took great pride in working with his hands and completed several projects for his home, including building a deck and an addition to the house. He loved creating and improving the spaces around him, always taking on new challenges with skill and dedication.
Chip also cherished life’s simple pleasures—he never turned down a good hoagie, a trip to Dairy Queen, or a slice of pizza. His warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
