Gultekin “Tekin” Celikiz was born July 9, 1930 in Istanbul, Turkey . Professor Celikiz, a Resident of Erdenheim, PA passed from this world on September 26, 2019. He is survived by his loving wife of (63) years, Joan, and daughter, Deborah ( known as Lark), his son-in-law Steven Willey, grandchildren Ann Marie England, Sarah Willey and great grand children Hi’ilani, Kiana and David, all of Waimea, Hawaii. He was a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a Masters of Science Degree in Textiles. His entire teaching career was at Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science, now known as Philadelphia University-Jefferson University where he taught Chemistry from 1957 until the mid 1990’s when he retired. Professor Celekiz was well known in the Flourtown and Erdenheim communities . He was a member of the American Chemical Society, The American Association of Textile Chemists and Colorists, The New York Academy of Science, and presented papers on Color Measurement Principles in the Textile Industry. He was an avid photographer, having won prizes for his photographs. He was a member of the Woodmere Museum , and loved music, animals ,old movies, traveling the world, and Humpback whales which he enjoyed watching when he visited his daughter and her family in Hawaii. He loved his family and his dog, Alex, who misses him very much. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation Friday October 11, 2019 from 6:30-7:30PM at the John F. Murray Funeral Home 1220 Bethlehem Pike Flourtown, PA 19031. Memorial Service will follow at 7:30PM. In lieu of flowers, donations to SPCA are requested by the family.
