Ethel R. Reed

d. February 6, 2020

Ethel Reed (nee Roskey) was born on December 17, 1924 in Nanty-Glo, PA. After graduating from Conemaugh High School her parents and four brothers moved to Philadelphia. After marrying William Reed in April 1945 in the Church of the Holy Child in the Logan section of Philadelphia, they lived a brief time in Oakland, California and then moved back to Philadelphia. It was in Logan that Ethel raised her three children living near her mother and brothers.  Ethel moved to Oreland in 1968 and enjoyed living there for almost fifty years until she needed full time care at Brookside Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Abington, PA.   When younger, Ethel enjoyed bowling in a mixed league. She also liked to play cards, especially black jack and poker.  When the casinos opened in Atlantic City, you could find her at the Black Jack Table. She loved all sports including the Phillies, the Flyers, the Eagles, Penn State and especially Notre Dame. She loved reading novels, doing the daily crossword puzzle and walking.    For over twenty years Ethel would spend the winter months in Miami staying with her daughter Kathy. She loved walking around the lake and feeding the ducks. The ducks would run to greet her because they knew she had "breakfast" for them.   Ethel leaves behind her three loving children, Kathryn Markert and her husband Thomas of Texas; William Reed and his wife Barbara of Warrington, and Joseph Reed of Oreland; and her five loving grandchildren Wendy Politi of Perkasie; Stacey Crush and her husband Jeffrey of Texas, Christopher Metzger and his wife Janice of Perkasie; Kimberly Wells and her husband Michael of Hellertown; and Brooke Reed of Perkasie; and four beloved great-grandchildren Nicholas and Gabrielle Politi of Perkasie; and Carter and Connor Metzger of Perkasie.   Friends are invited to join Ethel's family at Holy Martyrs Catholic Church in Oreland on Wednesday, February 12th at 9:30 AM for an informal gathering followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM with the Rev. Michael Ryan as celebrant. Ethel will be interred at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.   In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in remembrance of Ethel to Holy Martyrs Church, 120 Allison Road, Oreland, PA 19075
