Edmund L. Charles

Edmund Lionel Charles, resident of Erdenheim, Pennsylvania, passed away on Tuesday, October 25th, 2022 at the age of 64. He was preceded in death by his mother, Malvina Bradshaw Charles, father, Lennie Charles, and older brother, Philip Charles. Born on August 20th, 1958 as the youngest of four, Edmund grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He was a stellar athlete playing basketball in his early years, but transitioned to track & field at Bishop Loughlin Memorial High School. Breaking many school records over the years, he eventually earned an athletic scholarship to compete collegiately. While in college, his mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, and to support her, he gave up his athletic aspirations and took on some part-time jobs before her passing. He married his wife Rose (Maggie) in 1993 and they had their son Alix in 1996. They welcomed their daughter Maya in 2003, and the family resided in White Plains, New York up until 2010. During the summer of that year, they relocated to the West Mount Airy neighborhood of Philadelphia before moving out to Erdenheim in 2017. Alix and Maya followed in their father’s footsteps by competing in varsity track and field at their respective high schools: St. Joseph’s Preparatory School and Mt. St. Joseph Academy. A big sports fanatic, Edmund made it a priority to attend their meets. He even stayed up-to-date with Prep and Mount athletics after his children graduated, providing occasional updates on up-and-coming stars at their schools. Though he has had many roles in his professional career, he most recently was an Officer in the financial services industry. Edmund is survived by his sister, Joyce Jones, brother, Eugene Charles, wife, Rose, son, Alix, daughter, Maya, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 2nd at 9am at St. Genevieve Church, Flourtown, PA followed by a funeral mass at 10am. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery will follow shortly afterwards.
