Dorothy Elizabeth Koons. Born July 19, 1927 in Camden, New Jersey. Most of her childhood was spent in the Fox Chase area before settling in Oreland where she graduated from Springfield High School. Dot worked as a secretary for a Center City firm and also modeled for a women’s clothing line. She married Sherm on September 23, 1950 and they moved into a row house in Germantown where they lived for the first few years of marriage. In 1957, they moved to Montgomery Avenue in Oreland with 5 year-old Dennis and 1 year-old Bob; Liz was born a couple of years later. She was a staple in this close-knit neighborhood where her children grew up. She lived there for the next 56 years, before moving to Fort Washington Estates. Dot worked at Bishop McDevitt High School for over 35 years and enjoyed getting to know the faculty and students, while becoming life-long friends with her coworkers. Working at McDevitt also allowed her to keep tabs on her children over a 12-year span. After being married for over four decades, Dot lost Sherm, but her independent spirit carried her for 26 more happy years. Dot was known for her sense of humor and her infectious laugh and that humor didn’t diminish with age. The staff at Fort Washington often commented about the exchanges they had with her. Dot was a committed Mother, Grandmother, and Great Grandmother. She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with family. We were all blessed to have her for over 92 years. She is survived by her children Dennis (Marcia), Robert (Donna), and Elizabeth Carr (John). She is also survived by her grandchildren of Robert, Andrew, Michael, and Daniel and five great grandchildren.
