Donna McCall, born on August 19, 1946, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, peacefully departed this world on September 5, 2024, at Chestnut Hill Hospital. As we mourn her passing, we cherish the countless memories of a woman whose life was illuminated by her kindness and dedication to others.
From an early age, Donna exhibited a profound passion for helping those in need, despite her own physical limitations. She attended Kensington High School, where she graduated with honors, a precursor to her bright future in the health care field. Donna pursued her education at the University of Pennsylvania School, setting the foundation for a long career in Physical Therapy. She began her profession at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she made a difference in the lives of countless children. After many years of dedicated service, she concluded her distinguished career at Saint Joseph Villa, where she spent 22 fulfilling years overseeing the rehabilitation department, ensuring that her residents received the best possible care. She was best known for zipping around the department on her little stool making sure everyone was taken care of.
Donna found great joy sitting outside on her deck surrounded by her tomato plants, herbs and flowers while listening to the ball game. A daily crossword puzzle became her ritual, and the pages of the Philadelphia Inquirer held a special place in her morning routine. She very much enjoyed lunch with a friend, time at her gym and a good book.
However, nothing brought Donna more fulfillment than her family. Her grandchildren, Danny and Kelsey, were her pride and joy — the true beat of her heart. She cherished every moment spent with them. Her husband, John, stood by her side as a steadfast partner, sharing in the adventures of life and creating a tapestry of beautiful memories. The love and support shared with her daughter, Sarah, was a guiding light, reflecting the values Donna instilled in her family. Her sister, Sandy, and her goddaughter, Debbi, were also cherished figures in her life, standing together with her through the journey of laughter and tears.
In her absence, she is lovingly remembered by those who survive her: John McCall, Sarah, Danny and Kelsey Schempp, Sandra Zaleskas, Debbi Ebbert along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, George and May Reid, as well as her brother, George Reid Jr., and her son-in-law, Dan Schempp.
Family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing Donna are invited to pay their respects during the visitation set to be held at John F. Murray Funeral Home in Flourtown, PA, on Friday September 13, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Services and burial will be private. In the gathering of hearts, may we celebrate a remarkable life dedicated to kindness—a life well-lived, a presence immeasurably missed.
As we remember Donna McCall, let us hold tight to the beautiful memories of her laughter, her unwavering determination to overcome her challenges, and her profound impact on our lives. Her legacy will continue to inspire us to touch the lives of others, just as she did.
