Bernard J. McLafferty

Bernard J. McLafferty, Sr., a long time resident of Wyndmoor, PA, passed away on Sunday evening, August 25th at the age of 88. He joins his beloved wife, Florence C. McLafferty, who died in May of 2005. He is predeceased by his parents, Charles and Briget McLafferty, his brother Charles Jr., and his sister, Mary Lynch and is survived by his brother John McLafferty. He is a beloved father and grandfather and is survived by his five children: Bernie McLafferty Jr. (Tracy), Irene McLafferty O’Neill (Charles), Edward McLafferty (Denise), Jean Anne Boccaccio (nee McLafferty) (Chris), and Maryanne McLafferty. He will be sorely missed by his children and fourteen grandchildren: Caitlin, Eric, Sean, Colin, Liam, Caleigh, Kayla, Audrey, Grace, Shane, Colleen, Madelyn, Daniel, and Gabrielle.

Bernie (“the Attorney”) maintained a long standing law practice in Erdenheim, Pa, and he actively served his community throughout the years. He graduated from Villanova Law School in 1961 and was a scholar of the law. He was Past President of the Montgomery Bar Association, founded and was first President of the Trial Lawyer’s Section of the Montgomery Bar Association and served as Solicitor to the Register of Wills in Montgomery County, PA for over 20 years. He represented Zone 9 in the Pennsylvania Bar Association House of Delegates for nine years, served on the Villanova Law Board of the Consultors, and served as President of the Villanova Law School Alumni Association and the Saint Joseph’s University Law Alumni Association. He also served as both the Director and Chair of the Free Library of Springfield Township for 15 years.

Bernie was extremely social and outgoing, loved to dance, and was always ready for a good party. He had many friends that he treasured and maintained close relationships with throughout his life. 

An advocate until the end, he was often referred to as the mayor at the Hill at Whitemarsh and offered his services to his friends there when needed. 

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Friday,August 30, 2024 from 9-10AM and Funeral Mass at 10am at Saint Genevieve’s Parish 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown, PA 19031 followed by the burial at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery and reception at North Hills Country Club. The Mass will be live-streamed through the St Genevieve parish website which can be found at www.stgensparish.com. (Click on the YouTube link on the right and then the Live tab if needed).
