Angeles Adolfo Chan, 93, passed away quietly on July 17, 2024 at her residence in the Horsham Center for Jewish Life. Born September 3, 1930 in Cebu City, the Philippines, she was the third of five children of Ignacio and Paz Adolfo. As an adolescent, she bravely survived the Japanese occupation of her homeland by the Japanese during WWII. A graduate of the University of San Carlos in Cebu City, Angeles received her medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. In 1958, Angeles emigrated to the US where she completed her residencies in pediatrics at Truesdale Hospital in Massachusetts, Burlington Memorial Hospital in New Jersey, as well as Children’s and St. Christopher’s Hospitals in Philadelphia.
In 1959, Angeles married Dr. Pablo K. Chan, a fellow medical school alumnus, in a quiet ceremony in Milford, Connecticut. Always a trailblazer, Angeles continued her career in pediatrics while being a loving mother to three young children. Later she chose to devote her energies to creating a stable, nurturing home for her growing family, and indulged her passions for gardening and cheering for the Philadelphia Phillies. When she returned to the workforce many years later, Angeles shared her love of children by starting as a daycare assistant, then worked as a retail customer service associate at Wanamaker’s, and finally retired from US Healthcare/Aetna in 2005. A former parishioner of St. Genevieve and St. Helena (Blue Bell), Angeles remained steadfast in her Catholic faith.
Angeles is survived by: her three daughters, Deborah Williams (Peter), Stella Chan (Mary Detloff), and Jeanette Aaron (Gregory); four grandchildren: Allison, Caroline, Catherine, and Therese; four great-grandchildren: Olivia, Jordan, Isabelle, and Theodore; and a sister, Dr. Fe R. Adolfo of Bethesda, Maryland. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Pablo, and their sons Paul Rodney and Kenneth Paul.
