Charles W. "Charlie" Knittel

Charles W. "Charlie" Knittel, 88 years of age, of Warminster, Pa., formerly of Oreland, Pa. passed away peacefully on August 28, 2015. Beloved husband of Henrietta (nee Hoffmann); loving father of C. Jeffrey (Kathy); Karen; grandfather of Eric and Cory. Mr Knittel was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, which he joined at the age of 16, aboard the USS Twiggs, which participated in various Naval battles and was ultimately sunk in Okinawa. Charlie was employed by Henkels and McCoy and retired some 20 years ago. His various charitable work included being a member of the Oreland Volunteer Fire Dept. for over 50 years; a member of the American Legion for 70 years. He was a recipient of the Vincentian Man of the Year Award by the Society of St. Vincent DePaul for his charitable contributions. Charlie was a faithful member of Holy Martyrs Church. Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing Tuesday from 9:30-11AM at Holy Martyrs Church Allison Rd. and Ulmer Ave. Oreland, Pa. Funeral Mass will follow at 11AM. Interment Whitemarsh Memorial Park. Contributions in his memory can be made to the Oreland Fire Dept or the American Legion of Wyndmoor, Pa.
